Engineer, systems builder, persistent student
I care about what happens when complicated domains meet real production constraints—and about leaving behind systems and writing that stay useful after the deadline.
I’m Ahmad W Khan—a senior software engineer with more than a decade of production experience. I work from architecture and backend systems through product delivery: APIs, data platforms, compliance-sensitive workflows, and user-facing products that have to survive real traffic and real teams.
Domains I’ve worked in
Most of my professional delivery sits at the intersection of product engineering and operational complexity—where correctness, auditability and delivery speed all matter.
- Patent analytics / SEP
- Customer data platforms
- Fintech & payments
- Sports fantasy platforms
- Ad tech
- Enterprise healthcare
- Municipal / civic systems
- SaaS & marketplaces
Selected contributions
A sample of systems where I owned meaningful engineering surface—architecture, delivery, or both. Full portfolio and write-ups live on the work and case-study pages.
How I got here
I entered software through independent study and practical builds, then spent years across early-stage products, international remote teams and enterprise platforms. The through-line is shipping systems people actually operate—not demos that only work on a laptop.
How I work
- Understand the domain and constraints before selecting the architecture.
- Prefer clear systems over impressive complexity.
- Build for the actual operating environment—compliance, ops, and failure modes included.
- Make important decisions explainable to the next engineer.
- Treat documentation as part of engineering, not an afterthought.
- Use AI as a tool, not a substitute for judgment.
Writing and research
Alongside commercial work I publish long-form technical and analytical writing (118 articles, 42k+ views), build research-driven tools, and investigate subjects that benefit from structured modelling. Selected essays—including Mastering Assembly Language and The Joy of Research as a Hobby—have been cited in academic publications and independently referenced by practitioners.

Working together
I’m open to full-time senior engineering roles and selective contract / architecture engagements where clear ownership and thoughtful execution matter. Independent side products are exactly that—side products—not a signal that I’m unavailable for employment.
